“Firebird, Part One: Khobkas Lament.” Part 1 of 3. Story by Stefan Petrucha. Art by Charles Adlard. Scientists investigating the site of the 1908 Tunguska crash experience weird effects. Witnessing this is one of the survivors of the original incident way back when. A few months later the skeleton of one of the scientists shows up in Nevada with varying amounts of Carbon-14 sucked from different parts of the body. This leads Mulder and Scully to a strange building in the desert, the old man who survived the original crash, and an even stranger creature.

Sacrificing himself so that Scully can escape with Khobka, Mulder is captured at the secret military base and taken before a council of shadowy government figures.

As the military tries feverishly to destroy the alien creature, Mulder and Scully believe they have found the solution. Now they must reunite Khobka with his amulet and get him to the creature before it destroys the entire state of Nevada.
